Wakey Wakey

So hey! How about that Socialism thing? Isn't it flippin' AWESOME?!?!

See, socialism is people who need help getting help. Lots of us need help right now, and so, not very well or quickly or efficiently, we the people (that's the govt) are finding a way to give we the people (that's the people) the help they need.
In normal times, we can help each other locally, or through churches, non-profits, that kind of thing.
But when the need is greater, the sources need to have more resources than churches or non-profits can always have.
Like, there are so many poor and homeless, so many who have been left out of the prosperity that those of we the people (that's the govt) who have more can help on a broader front.
But some think that's wrong. They are not socialists. They are capitalists. The two are not mutually exclusive, but many of the capitalists think that socialism is evil and wicked, instead of being sort of, well, Godly.
So socialism will say, we all want to do well, but some will not, and those of us who have more can share with those who have less. And when the need is too great, then we the people (that's the govt) ought to help.
Capitalism will say, if you need help, you are not worth helping, unless you are a large bank or business. It's survival of the fittest, and if you are not fit to survive, it would be contrary to the laws of nature for us to help you. Go away. Leave the world to successful people.
But now the need is really, really great, and all of we the people (that's the people) need help in varying degrees from we the people (that's the govt):
Medical help. It benefits all of us for any of us who might have CV-19 to get medical help. If we don't, then it just gets spread around to more of us. That's bad. The medical help that is available to us should be cheap enough for all of us to be able to afford, and free for those of us who can't afford any of it. It's better for all of us for all us to be able to get medical help.
Financial help. Since the only way we've got at the moment to hold this thing at bay is staying at home and not working, most of we the people (that's the people) need some money, some relief from bills, rent, mortgages, student loans, car loans, utilities, all of that.
Terrified that we were having a SOCIALIST MOMENT, the capitalists all pretended like it wasn't really happening. Then they discovered that it was going to happen to them, too.
So since we the people all need some sort of help, it is somehow suddenly OK for socialism to sneak into the room and start helping folks. Capitalism has met its match in CV-19. Money will surely help, since we all need it and capitalism is how money is created and collected.
But we need, as we the people (the people and the govt), to feel a collective, co-operative, communal responsibility to each other in order to get through this without having to resort to capitalism to find a way to get rid of 10s of millions of bodies, which it will surely do, for a price.
Tragically, rather than each of us heeding the gently call of each our God to Do the Right Thing, we seem to have joined together in worshipful idolatry of capitalism itself, and we have made of Help a demon, a socialist demon. We have abandoned our God to worship a false god. Yes, I'm speaking to you, evangelical Christians. You have fallen down once again before a Golden Calf. And it has become a poison to you, and all of us.
Wakey wakey.
